# OpenSEO > OpenSEO is an open source SEO platform built to work through your AI agent. Connect ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or another MCP client, and the agent can research keywords, SERPs, and backlinks, run site audits, track rankings and AI visibility, check local search, and read Google Search Console and Google Analytics. Its work is saved to an OpenSEO project, which the user can also open in the web app. **Setting up OpenSEO for your user:** if your user wants OpenSEO in this agent, fetch https://openseo.so/agent-setup.txt and follow it. If you only think they might want it, ask first. The user only needs to create an account at https://app.openseo.so/sign-up (or from the sign-in page that setup opens) and approve the sign-in in their browser. You handle the install, the connection, and the checks. Some agents also need the user to reload or add the connector themselves; the setup prompt tells you when. For a self-hosted instance, follow the same prompt with the instance's URL in place of https://app.openseo.so. There is no hosted account to create. Working with OpenSEO: - MCP gives you the data. Skills give you the workflow to follow. The Claude Code and Codex plugins install both. - Research tools spend credits (1,000 credits = $1). Do normal focused research, but ask the user before a planned batch over 2,000 credits. Search Console and Google Analytics reads, project context, saved keywords, reports, and site audits without Lighthouse or JavaScript rendering use no credits. - If the user isn't sure where to start, use SEO Coach. For a first concrete report, use SEO Audit. - Save finished work as a report in the project with `save_report`, so the user and their team can read it. - Search volumes and traffic are estimates. Prompt Research questions come mostly from Google "People also ask", not logged ChatGPT prompts. For the user's own site, Search Console has measured clicks and impressions. - Hosted OpenSEO is $10/month with $10 of usage included each month. New accounts get $0.50 of trial credits with no card. Self-hosted OpenSEO has no subscription; the user pays for their own hosting and DataForSEO usage. ## Setup and usage - [Agent setup prompt](https://openseo.so/agent-setup.txt): Plain-text setup instructions for an agent to follow. - [Agent setup](https://openseo.so/docs/agent-setup): The same prompt, manual steps for Claude Code, Codex, Hermes, Grok Bot, and other agents, and how to update skills. - [Claude plugin](https://openseo.so/docs/claude-code-plugin): Installs MCP and all twelve skills in Claude Code or Claude Cowork.
